Traditional wood-fired
sauna by the sea

Experience the warmth of a traditional wood-fired sauna by the sea at Burghead, Moray. Nestled beside the Moray Firth, our beach sauna combines the heat of Scandinavian wellness traditions with the beauty of the Moray coastline.

At the heart of all saunas is the sauna stove or ‘Kiuas’. The heart and soul of Orka Sauna is our Narvi Stony stove, handmade in Finland. The huge stone load which gives the Narvi its luxury signature feel, is designed to create a long lasting, gentle yet heavy löyly that recreates the feeling of the traditional Finnish smoke sauna (savusauna).

Löyly – the Finnish word for the cleansing steam and heat created when water is poured over hot sauna stoves. More than just steam, löyly is known as the spirit of the sauna, bringing a wave of warmth that restores balance to mind and body.

Sisu – While the world sees the sauna as a luxury, the Finns sees it as necessity – a forge for the spirit. At Orka Sauna we are inspired by traditional Nordic sauna culture and the Finnish spirit of sisu – inner strength, resilience and determination.

Spirit of
the Sauna

Step away from the heat into the cool embrace of the Scottish sea air or take a refreshing dip in the North Sea. The rhythm of hot and cold contrast therapy is the essence of the Orka experience: elemental, invigorating and deeply restorative.

Do you use essential oils in the sauna?

No, we do not use essential oils in the communal sessions this is due to many people being sensitive to strong scents and on occasions can trigger a reaction.

Can I take photos in the sauna?

We would recommend taking your photos before and after your session, keeping your time tech-free to fully enjoy your sauna.

Is there a cafe nearby for post hot drinks and cakes?

Yes, Cable Cafe is located just a few minutes’ walk along the beach.

Is it safe to go into the sea?

Entering the sea is at your own risk.

Sea dipping/cold plunge is done so entirely at your own risk and is not covered under our insurance policy. If entering the sea, do so responsibly in accordance with your own experience and fitness levels and be aware of the dangers of cold water shock, local tides and offshore winds.

Heat and water, silence and conversation,
laughter and reflection.

This is the rhythm of the sauna, the heartbeat of community.
